Blender addons :7 must-have addons for Blender

Some products are doing very well on Blender Market and others a quite hidden. There are loads of factors that play a role like presentation, marketing, having a name, etc. On the other hand, it is unpredictable if a product will be a success. Some of the unknown products are awesome, but for some reason not gaining momentum. It’s a bit like the news weather, or some tweets that are going viral and others not. In a previous article, I showed you third-party products. This time I show an overview of my own products that should be way more valued. Those are like hidden gems: 7 must-have addons for Blender.

The Philosophy

Production

As you know, I am a die-hard Blender user for 8 years. And I tried around 400 Blender addons over the years. And on this website, I wrote more than 100 articles about Blender Addons. Three years ago I started to write my own addons, mostly because I was tired to do things over and over again.

First of all, I believe an addon is handy if it saves you time. Something that does for you what you are doing repetitively. So what is that? Are you making snow every week? No, you use bevels for hard surface modeling, baking, UV tools, lighting, render, scene setups, and camera. Right? So my products are focussed on making it easier and producing faster.

EEVEE vs Cycles

My addons, where applicable are focussed on EEVEE. Because if you set up EEVEE properly, you can render out 1 frame in 4 or 5 seconds. Think of it when you need to render an animation. There are solutions for Cycles, but still, you need a lot of resources (CPU) and need a lot of samples to get it noise-free. EEVEE on the other hand renders out noise-free.

Why speed matters

The world is changing. Think of Social Media, businesses that cannot cope with the speed and try to invent strategies like agile, crump, DevOps, etc. If we see news (posts on social media), we want to reply within 2 hours otherwise the momentum is gone. I am stalking about speed in that perspective. So for me EEVEE is the solution.

Modular and parametric

I go for a modular approach, where you can change one part that affects other parts. Think of Group Pro, Modulator, Geometry nodes.

Procedural VS Image textures

Procedural textures have a lot of benefits:

  • Infinite resolution
  • No tiling
  • No seams
  • You control the pattern
